Fortress

Fortress is a series of paintings exploring psychological biases and the limitations of individual perception.

In this context, bias is not a specific stance but a mental structure shaped by personal experience, environment, and identity—like a fortress that provides a sense of security while simultaneously creating closure and defense.

Each individual is enclosed within their own perspective, giving rise to inherent limitations. Bias solidifies over time and is continuously reinforced in everyday life. Such psychological fortresses are not easily breached; they often operate unconsciously, shaping how we observe, judge, and respond to others.

The artist isolates and juxtaposes different individual perspectives, allowing these “fortresses” to coexist within the same frame. They confront and echo one another, yet cannot truly enter each other’s space. Bias is thus presented as a form of dialogue—interconnected yet full of contradictions and dissonance.

The works do not aim to dismantle these fortresses or pass judgment. Instead, they invite viewers to navigate multiple perspectives, becoming aware of their own position and limitations. In the act of observation, the fortresses remain intact, yet they are made visible—offering a space for plural reflection.
